Reno Bike Project
Reno Bike Project (RBP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community bicycle shop and advocacy group committed to creating a nationally recognized, cycling-friendly community through advocacy, education, and cooperation in the Truckee Meadows. We support the promotion of bicycling as a means for commuting, recreation, and as a way of life.
The Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission works closely with Washoe County and other jurisdictions to improve air quality, multi-model means of transportation and enhancing the quality of life for all residents and visitors to our region. As a part of RTC, Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) includes members from across all walks of life who collectively work toward a better, safer, more bike friendly community.
Explore your transportation options through the RTC SMART TRIPS program. A trip matching program can help you find carpool, bike, walking, or bus buddies for your daily trip to work as well as one-time trips. You can record all of your sustainable travel choices and see a running total of the money you’re saving and the air pollutants you’re reducing. If you’ve carpooled to work and something unexpected comes up causing you to need to leave before or after your regular departure time, RTC SMART TRIPS will reimburse you for a cab ride home if your carpool has registered for the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program. The program lets you share a ride to work without the fear of being stranded.
Kiwanis Bike Program
The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Sparks sponsors an ongoing program for bike repair, safe riding practices and recycling in our bike shop. It is home to ongoing clinics for youth organizations, refurbishing of bikes for at risk youth in our community and bike sales of a limited number of refurbished bikes. These sales support our programs, and go to support donation of bikes to youth organizations in the community. Our programs could not exist without donations of bikes from our community.
Nevada Bicycle Coalition
The Nevada Bicycle Coalition, a 501c3 charitable organization founded in 2007, is an organization of bicycle groups and individuals dedicated to promoting safe bicycling in Nevada.
Safe Kids Washoe County believes that children should grow up safe, healthy and injury free. Safe Kids creates programs that reduce injuries through educating adults and children, creating safe environments, conducting research and advocating for effective laws. We help expand cycling to families and children and to support the focus of safety for all cyclists.
Get Healthy Washoe
Get Healthy Washoe is part of the Health District’s Chronic Disease Prevention Program and promotes the health effects of bicycling. Bicycling is a great way for individuals to be active and stay healthy. Employers can also benefit, as studies indicate that employees with active life styles are more productive and have lower health care costs and fewer absences from work.
Safe Routes To School
Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs are sustained efforts by parents, schools, community leaders and local, state, and federal governments to improve the health and well-being of children by enabling and encouraging them to walk and bicycle to school. SRTS programs examine conditions around schools and conduct projects and activities that work to improve safety and accessibility, and reduce traffic and air pollution in the vicinity of schools. As a result, these programs help make bicycling and walking to school safer and more appealing transportation choices thus encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age.
