This biennial report (2024–2025) outlines the activities, advocacy, and financial health of the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance (TMBA), a non-profit dedicated to making the Reno-Sparks area safer and more accessible for cyclists and everyone who bikes, walks, rolls, rides, or drives within Washoe County and beyond.
TMBA has been active in both legislative and physical infrastructure improvements:
Infrastructure: Successfully advocated for “daylighting” at dangerous downtown Reno intersections to improve visibility.
Legislation: Supported AB-168 (risk reduction for traffic laws) and campaigned for “Stop-as-yield” legislation.
Safety Awareness: In response to a 23% increase in fatal crashes in early 2025, TMBA organized the community’s first World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Network Planning: Provided community feedback for the “Biggest Little Bike Network,” which is slated for construction in 2026.
TMBA is happy to report a significant increase in public engagement:
Bike Valet: The organization quadrupled its service, caring for over 2,000 bikes at local events to solve the “parking barrier” for cyclists.
Youth Engagement: The “Ride Reno-Spin Sparks” event saw over 100 participants and showcased the Oddie Wells protected bike lanes.
Outreach: TMBA grew its digital footprint to over 4,800 email subscribers and social media followers.
TMBA shows a healthy surplus, allowing for future growth:
Total Income: $39,000 (64% from donations, 21% from service fees, 15% from partnerships).
Total Expenses: $18,885.
Spending Breakdown: The majority of funds were allocated to Events (42%) and Bike Valet operations (37%).
TMBA is gearing up for expansion with three primary goals:
Increased Collaboration: Leading events like the Reno-Sparks Bike Summit.
Safer Streets: Insisting on connected, inclusive infrastructure design.
Organizational Growth: Adding board members and hiring contractors to handle a higher volume of advocacy and events.
