When summer starts to heat up, so do the many grills, woks, ranges, and ovens that you’ll find in the food trucks at Food Truck Friday in Reno. This vibrant community event brings together delicious food, drinks, music, family, and friends. For 2024, the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance is thrilled to provide a free bike valet service at Food Truck Friday that safely secures bicycles and other micromobility options (scooters, one-wheels, strollers, etc.) while you visit the trucks and listen to music.
Food Truck Friday takes place at Idlewild Park, Reno, NV 4pm-9pm every Friday June 7 – August 30, 2024. If you plan on using Bike Valet, please pick your bike up by 9pm (unless otherwise noted).
As an all-volunteer organization, the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance needs the help of volunteers to provide this service. If you are interested in volunteering at a Food Truck Friday Bike Valet, please click here!
Bike valet at Food Truck Friday is 100% free to use, and we graciously accept donations to the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance at the bike valet tent.
What is “Bike Valet” and Why is it Important?
A bike valet is a secure, attended parking service for bicycles and other micromobility options like scooters. Operated similarly to a coat check service, bike valet provides a safe and convenient way to store your ride while you enjoy an event or visit a location.
A lack of secure bicycle parking/storage at a destination may deter someone from considering a bike when it comes to transportation. Bike Valet removes this as a barrier to encourage more people to use a bicycle as a form of transport, including those who don’t have access to a bicycle lock.
Why Should You Use the Bike Valet Service?
1. Eco-Friendly and Sustainable:
By biking to the event, you help reduce vehicle emissions and contribute to a cleaner, greener environment. Opting to use a bike rather than a motor vehicle helps keep our air healthy for everyone.
2. Reduce Congestion:
With limited vehicle parking spaces near Idlewild Park, the bike valet service offers a convenient alternative. Skip the stress of finding a parking spot and enjoy the convenience of front-row parking every Food Truck Friday!
According to AAA, driving can cost between $0.52 and $0.78 per mile. Every bike trip to Food Truck Friday that replaces a vehicle trip saves the rider money!
5. Convenience:
Our bike valet service is conveniently located and is some of the closest available parking during Food Truck Friday. You can drop off your bike and be at a food truck in seconds.
How It Works
1. Arrive:
Bike valet will be located near the southeastern entrance to Idlewild Park near the corner of Cowan Drive and Idlewild Drive. Look for bike valet signs and our black Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance pop-up. We can start taking bikes at 4 pm.
2. Check-In:
Our all-volunteer staff will tag your ride and provide you with a claim ticket. We’ll also ask you to provide contact information in the event your claim ticket is lost or we need to contact you to pick your bike up after closing (this happens more often than you’d expect.)
3. Enjoy the Event:
With your bike securely stored, you can relax and enjoy everything Food Truck Friday has to offer.
4. Pick-Up:
When you’re ready to head home, return to the valet station, present your ticket, and we’ll retrieve your ride. Remember, all bikes must be picked up by 9 pm. We reserve the right to try tricks we probably shouldn’t on any bikes left past 9 pm.
